The 2019 Update

A year for the ages is what it's been! I can't believe it's been since JANUARY that I've blogged, but a lot has happened. Let me bring you up to speed!

So start, for those of you near and dear to me, you know by now that my partner and I split this year. It was a difficult decision. Needless to say, I find myself in a very interesting position, one that I have not known in 13 years! A party of one, all on my own. It's scary, and exciting, and I can't tell which one I feel more than the other!

Some days its awful, other days its awesome, and while I'm optimistic this is the beginning of a positive new era, I am not fool-hearted. I know that with these new adventures, there are risks. If I lose my job, I'm on my own. If I break a leg, if I am sick, if a huge expense comes up, if I make a mistake, same thing. It takes strength to live as a single woman, I'll tell you that much, but I've come to find that nothing worth having in this world is free, fast, or easy.

I've got a couple hot pots on the fire right now.

Home Searching - My ex and I did a great job saving money and because of that, I am finally able to realize the dream of home ownership. I know some say it's overrated, but after moving around SO MUCH in the past decade, I'm ready to stay put for a little bit. I'm not looking at anything really big, just something that fits my lifestyle but can also grow with me as things change. Maybe something I can keep as an investment if I move away from the area, even. I've made offers on two places so far, but I'm in a hot market in the Northeast US so we'll see what happens!

Work Life - work has also been great. I've been in my role for a year now as a sales trainer, and it's something I have really grown to love. Sales has always been a talent of mine, and now I get to enjoy helping others see the fun that they can have when they help customers use the products we represent for their own benefit through good consultative selling. It also turns out that I'm a beast when it comes to PowerPoint and instructional/workshop design! I don't know what the future holds in this role, but there are so many times that I'm in my flowstate when I'm working so I know I'm on the right track!

Travel - ...also continues to be a focus. One of my goals this year was to go back "home" to India with a girlfriend, and we made it happen! It was her first time and possibly her last so I made sure she experienced as much as possible! We ate ALL the foods along the way and talked to as many folks as possible during our travels. We went to an Ayurvedic retreat in Kerala, took a boat tour on the backwaters of Alleppy, attended the Art Biennale in Kochi, lounged at the beach in Goa (complete with shots of kaju and coconu feni!), petted ALL THE ANIMALS, took a train to Hampi and explored the sites, toured The Taj Hotel at the Gateway in Mumbai, indulged in a luxurious Juhu Beach weekend, took a self-guided walking tour of Colaba, checked out Dharavi (thumbs up to Mo at Inside Mumbai Tours for showing the BUSINESS and commercial side of Dharavi and not focusing on the lame poverty-porn that others do), strolled along the seaside on Marine Drive to Nariman Point...so many wonderful experiences that I hope she keeps in her heart forever, as I surely will.
Looking toward the end of the year, I've got some fun travel plans. A trip to Mexico in the next few months, a weekend in Napa, a ton of work travel around the US, some visits planned to family, and this house situation on the horizon. Things are looking up and I can't wait to see what each day holds. Hopefully there will be more blog posting going on too but we'll see...so far my track record after coming back to the states hasn't been too great :-)

That's what happens when you live your life, right?
